This project involved designing a custom mouthpiece tailored to each patient’s unique oral anatomy, offering a comfortable and effective treatment option.
The Challenge
Sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder affecting millions worldwide. It causes repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep, leading to daytime fatigue, cardiovascular complications, and reduced quality of life. Traditional treatments, such as CPAP machines, can be cumbersome and uncomfortable, resulting in low patient compliance.
Our Solution
OVENTUS developed a custom mouthpiece designed to keep the airway open during sleep. Unlike standard one-size-fits-all solutions, this mouthpiece is personalised for each patient, ensuring maximum comfort and effectiveness. The device works by gently positioning the jaw forward, preventing airway collapse and improving sleep quality.
Our Process
The creation of each custom mouthpiece follows a seamless, patient-friendly workflow:
Scanning – Patients visit a local chemist to have their mouth scanned using advanced imaging technology, capturing precise oral dimensions.
Data Transmission – Scan data is securely sent to OVENTUS for processing.
Design – As authorised designers, we use specialised CSIRO-developed software to create a 3D model of the mouthpiece, tailored to each patient’s anatomy.
3D Printing – The final design is 3D printed at OVENTUS’s facility, ensuring high precision and quality.
